Umpiring is a good gig, when it isn't raining or snowing :0)
Anyway, Joel is working this summer at Slim Chickens during the day to leave nights and weekends open for umpiring. Originally he tried Hy-Vee, but they said it was a no go unless he would work weekends. This last Saturday he made $345 umpiring, so he wasn't going to give that up! (Yes that was probably a record setter. He umped 6 games, 3 solo (you make $ more then).)
But Slim Chickens is new to town and so they had a big hiring push and were willing to take a daytime/weekday cook for the summer. As you can imagine, he loved the idea of me taking his picture when I dropped him off for work (my car was getting an oil change, so we needed the other car while he was at work).
