8/13/20

 Here is what I know:

  • Natural Disasters don't care if you are in the middle of a pandemic.
  • Ken's parents are still without power (I heard Cedar Rapids/Marion was hit worse than Ankeny).  We asked if they want us to come or if they want to stay in Matthew's apartment, but "no" to both.
  • You shouldn't sit under a tree with bad branches.  (Joe...not Schilling...but the parishioner Joel mows for...has a huge sycamore, badly damaged.  They worked on it Monday, but branches still remain high in the tree and unstable.  Randy, our youth minister, told him YESTERDAY not to sit in the front yard.  Today and branch fell and hit him on the ear and arm! He is doing fine, no medical care needed.)
  • Kids will still need to educated!  Here are my kids sorting through the school supplies donated by parishioners for Holy Family School.  It is an inter-city Catholic school in Des Moines.

Sorted and counted (to let the church know of their impact).  My favorite items were a couple of backpacks that had one of everything on our list included!!!!

13 back packs (one is ripped, I will try to repair)
136 glue sticks
22 glue bottles
427 pencil erasers
50 pink erasers
26 scissors
36 rulers
9 sharpeners
420 pens
28 dry erase markers
2 paper packs
20 pencil bags
8 tissues
2008 crayons
522 colored pencils
150 folders
150 binders
59 high lighters
116 notebooks
232 markers
780 pencils
5214 TOTAL  (a small percentage of what we typically collect, but everyone has not returned to church to hear of the collection)
