Why Show Choir Should Be a Spring Activity

The kids are/were supposed to travel to Marion Iowa today for a competition.  Anna got up at 5:30 to do these eyes because her group was supposed to be show-ready on the bus at 7:45.  Last time the eyes were hard to do, so she gave herself lots of time.  (originally the bus was to leave at 5:30, but they moved it back because of the snow)

At 6:48 they announced that they can't leave at 8 as planned.  (Which Ken predicted...without Anna being able to hear, after he went outside and dug out Joel's car.)  I am sure by then MANY girls were dressed and ready and most boys were still in bed (like Joel).

I said "sorry" to Anna and she said, "you care more than me".  (nope I was only acting) So I admitted that while I was only sorry for her, I was glad they weren't going!  (But I was sorry for her loss of a competition....that is the fun reason why they work so hard!  They only have 4 competitions this year although they perform other times for the family and friends.)  But let's be honest, you can't have high school drivers trying to get to the high school at risk!  (Ken already was going to take our kids because of the roads.)  Not to mention the busses crossing 1/2 the state of Iowa.  Also while we are at it let's slow the spread of Covid.

So they pulled Remix and Chaos from the show with high hopes of leaving Ankeny at 9:30 so that the other 2 groups can still perform.  (Can the streets departments get the roads clear in time?)  Pretty doubtful, but at least Joel won't spend time getting ready, so nothing will be lost if they cancel.  Maybe he will be more disappointed than Anna.  Of course no one looked outside last night and thought "I am 100% sure we will go tomorrow".
