4/2/20

I am making Lemon Curd and homemade bread today....There now I am committed!

Another cancellation, that we knew was likely, but now is here:

University of Iowa OrientationDear Parent or Guardian:
We just sent the following message to Carolyn, and we wanted to be sure you received it, too:
Carolyn,
As you begin your college experience, the University of Iowa Orientation Team welcomes you to the Hawkeye family! While this has not been a typical spring on campus, nor in the lives of our incoming students and families, the UI remains committed to continuing to provide students with a world-class educational experience during this difficult time. This includes our incoming students and their families. Your Hawkeye family is here for you, and we will face these challenges together.
Here are some things you need to know about orientation and registration:
  • Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, the University of Iowa has made the difficult decision to transition to online orientation and registration programs and services through the end of July 2020. In-person programs scheduled for May, June, and July to register for summer and fall courses will transition to an online format. While we know our future Hawkeyes and their families looked forward to an on-campus experience, please rest assured you will receive the support you need to succeed through this virtual experience. We currently plan to hold programs scheduled for August on campus.
  • If you have a current orientation reservation, please watch for an e-mail with instructions about the new online orientation experience. The e-mail will include next steps to be eligible to register for classes for summer and/or fall.
  • The reservation system is currently closed but will re-open on April 8, 2020 to allow students to make changes to existing reservations and for new reservations. Students who have paid the acceptance fee and answered the health insurance question on their Admissions Profile in MyUI are eligible to sign up for orientation.
  • No overnight accommodations will be available in the residence halls.
  • The Success at Iowa online course will open as planned on May 1, 2020 and remains an important component of the orientation experience for new students. Due to the move to online orientation and registration, there will be additional content that students will need to review prior to meeting virtually with their advisor to register for classes. Registration will occur on the dates originally planned for on-campus orientation. Students who signed up for 2-day programs will only need to be available one of the two days. Individual dates will be communicated via e-mail and on a student’s Admissions Profile after the reservation system re-opens at 9:00 A.M. (CT) on April 8, 2020.
  • There will be additional opportunities for new students and their families to connect virtually with other students and with faculty and staff throughout the summer. A full schedule of events will be available in May on the Orientation website.
  • We are hosting a webinar on Monday, April 6 at 11:00 A.M. (CT) to provide any updates and answer any questions. If you are interested in attending, please register online.
To keep up to date with changes regarding orientation and registration, visit the Orientation Services COVID-19 updates page.
While it is disappointing to not be able to welcome you to campus this summer, we look forward to our incoming class of Hawkeyes joining us for the On Iowa! program August 18-23, 2020.

  1. Looks like all the colleges are heading that way. I know how much Ben would have been in his glory soaking up that time at IU this summer. Just makes me wonder when people havr hope to ever be back to normal!
